19/05/05 Tony to contest Spa 25hrs with Auto Express
Tony will contest the longest motor race in the world, the Uniroyal Fun Cup Spa 25hrs with Auto Express following leading British Touring Car driver Matt Neal’s decision not to compete for the team.
28/08/05 Fantastic ! First UK Podium for Auto Express
Tony Barson from Garsington and Kim Adams achieved Team Auto Express’ first UK podium with a fantastic drive to 3rd place in the 4th UK round of the Uniroyal Fun Cup at Croft near Darlington. Barson in only his 6th ever car race gave the pair a great start by storming through the field from 9th on the starting grid to 5th position by the end of lap 1 in the 4 hour race, and then reeled in the leading cars allowing Adams to take the pair further up the order to a solid 4th by the end of his first 40min stint. A safety car period to retrieve the stricken 3rd place car of Beatle Juice Racing promoted Barson and Adams into sight of their first podium finish and right on the tail of the leading Ssang Yong car with Chipping Norton’s Steve Harris at the wheel. The last hour saw Adams keeping a watchful eye on Ssang Yong and RaceCar.com from 9 seconds away, as they both traded the lead of the race, but despite every effort and a changed fuel strategy at their final pit stop, Team Auto Express had to settle for 3rd at the end of the endurance event, won once more by Harris’ silver Ssang Yong Beetle lookalike car.
09/10/05 Disappointing Finale for Auto Express
Team Auto Express had a disappointing final round of the season at Rockingham finishing in an uncharacteristic 16th position. Kim Adams started superbly, carving his way up from 14th to a solid 6th place gaining on the leaders and looked like steering himself, Owen Mildenhall and Tony Barson to a second podium position on the trot, only for a throttle cable to snap 18 laps into the 5 hour race which took about 20 mins to repair, leaving them an unrecoverable 13 laps behind the leading SSang Yong car. After getting back on track, the team highlighted their recent race form by comfortably overtaking cars running in the top 3 to savor a bit of team pride !
